snowshoe- west uintas - February 18, 2018

A trip to the Uintas during Presidents Day weekend. The West Uintas will feature beautiful forest scenery and great views of the Uintas as well as the Wasatch range out to the west. This past December, our WMC group traveled up the Shingle Creek Trail on a snowy day. For this activity, the exact tour will be dependent on the conditions and group interest. I would expect this will be at least 5-6 miles round trip and an elevation gain around 1500 feet. Examples of the trails include Mine Trail, Norway Flats, and Yellow Pine. I am hoping that we will get some decent snowstorms in January and February. Still, it is possible that the snow pack will be thin so that travel on traction devices such as microspikes may be appropriate. Because of a longer drive, the trip will take most of the day. I hope that we will be back to the Salt Lake Valley by 5:00 PM. There is a fee of $6.00 for parking at trailheads along the Mirror Lake Highway. Federal Interagency passes such as the America the Beautiful Pass and Senior Pass are honored at the Mirror Lake Highway. In the past years, this fee has been waived on Presidents Day weekend. Non drivers should contribute to the travel expenses. Please remember the 10 essentials and snow safety equipment. Also, note the non-ordinary meeting place. Plan for a 8:15 am departure from meeting place. Co-0rganized with Muhammed Raja.
