hike: provo peak and more via west ridge and squaw peak road - August 22, 2020

THIS ACTIVITY IS LIMITED TO 6 PEOPLE. THIS ACTIVITY IS FULL. Provo Peak sits between the two giants of Utah County (Mount Nebo and Timpanogos), but at 11,068 feet is still one of the highest peaks in the Wasatch (11,068 feet elevation, at least 3 miles round trip, and 2,700 feet gain (if we can drive to the trailhead)). We will continue to neighboring peaks - Provo East Peak (11,044 ft) and Freedom Peak (10, 801 ft). We plan to drive to the trailhead (TH) 13.5 miles up the Squaw Peak Rd - We will need two high clearance vehicles to get to the TH. From the TH, Provo Peak is a 1.5. mile way with 2,700 ft elevation gain on a trail. From Provo Peak, we will go down 690 ft and up 640 ft to Provo East Peak on the ridgeline (class 3 scrambles). The distance between Provo Peak and East Provo Peak is 0.62 mile. We will continue on the ridgeline from Provo East Peak to Freedom Peak (444 ft down & 200 ft up - 0.78 mile) (class 3 scrambles). Expect an early morning start for the drive up Squaw Peak Road. Anticipate scrambling, exposure, and a moderate pace. As suggested by public health authorities, be prepared for social distancing, symptom questions, and use of hand sanitizer and face coverings (buffs work well while recreating). RSVP - Please indicate if you have a high clearance 4 wheel drive vehicle.
