snow mountaineering practice (ice axe & crampons) & snowshoe/ski

We will snowshoe/ski up to the bottom of Sugarloaf Peak from Alta and go up to the peak using crampons and ice axe, conditions permitting. We will practice self-arresting with ice axe on a groomed slope. The specific practice location will be finalized depending on conditions. Bring ice axe and crampons, as well as snowshoes/skis and 10Es. Helmets and stiff boots for crampons required. Sunscreen and proper clothing recommended. If you have extra gear, please let us know. We have many extra ice axes, a few helmets, and one pair of crampons (for small feet) if you need to borrow. There are also rental places (e.g. REI). Expect 5-6 hours including snowshoeing/skiing. WMC members only. Please email before Friday, 6 pm, May 1st, for more details and the meeting place and time. Include full name, gear owned, and experience in your RSVP. The max number of participants will depend on the number of volunteers. If you can be a volunteer to help and share experiences, please let us know.
