The WMC is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the wild and natural qualities of the State of Utah. The goal is to continuously improve the quality of the outdoor experience for its members through preservation of wild lands and to preserve access to these lands.
In the 1960s the club became increasingly concerned with wilderness conservation. Since then the club members have made extensive studies and participated in lobbying efforts aimed at preserving the Wasatch and Uintah Ranges and many areas of Southern Utah and neighboring states. These efforts have been gratified by the designation of the Lone Peak Wilderness Area in the 1970s and eight other wilderness areas in Utah in 1984.
Oct 7, 2019 - Wasatch Canyons General Plan Public Draft
Dear Canyons Enthusiast,
Thank you for your past interest in providing input to Salt Lake County regarding the Wasatch Canyons General Plan update.
You are invited to attend two upcoming Open Houses for the Wasatch Canyons General Plan update. Salt Lake County has been working for over two years in preparing an update to the County's General Plan for the following Canyons: Little Cottonwood, Big Cottonwood, Mill Creek and Parleys, along with the corresponding foothills. The plan represents the County's long range 20 year vision for the Canyons covering crucial topics such as land-use, transportation, recreation, economy and more. The Forest Service, UDOT, CWC, UTA and other public agencies have been collaborating and working with the County. To date we have completed more than 15 public events and multiple online surveys, the vision and plan represents the input of residents, visitors and stakeholders.
The open houses dates are as follows:
Thursday October 24th 6:00-8:00 PM
Tuesday October 29th 5:00-7:30PM
The current October draft of the plan is available online at the project website, for downloading (under resources). https://slco.org/planning-transportation/wasatch-canyons-general-plan-update/
